Some of you will remember my incredibly short-lived "MMA Beyond the Numbers" newsletter from a few months back.
The gameplan was to dive into my thoughts on more typical MMA news, instead of my usual analytics-heavy approach.
This fizzled out because, it turns out, removing my favorite lens to analyze a sport didn't really get my creative juices flowing.
But I love writing, it's my favorite way to communicate ideas (much prefer it to podcasting, for example), and I also believe the process of writing is a very useful tool in learning and in organizing your own thoughts. So I want to get back to writing here.
Instead of trying to force a specific theme onto this newsletter, it's going to become a more personal and wide-reaching project.
Here are some of the things you can expect to read:
Written thoughts on some of the analysis I do for big fights on my weekly podcast
More meta-level thoughts on why I analyze certain fights the way I do
DraftKings UFC DFS thoughts and analysis
General thoughts on sports analytics and probability
Sports betting philosophy, tied into the thoughts above
Thoughts and musings on the MMA by the Numbers brand a whole
To avoid pigeon-holing myself again, I’m also going to stay open to evolving this as it goes based on what I’m finding the most interesting to write about and what readers are enjoying the most.
For those of you who are already subscribed, I know this isn’t what you originally signed up for. If you’re not interested in this, no hard feelings.
For those of you who are interested, I really appreciate it!
I think this new approach will let me bring a lot more value to everyone who reads this, since I’ll be writing about the things I am most passionate and most knowledgeable about. Getting to inject more of my personality and factor in readers’ feedback in setting the direction I go has me very excited to get things rolling again.
I’ve already got plenty of ideas tumbling around in my head, but if there are any topics you’d be interested in reading about, feel free to send me a reply and I’ll take them into consideration.
Thank you for your interest!
