Court McGee’s Inexplicable Game plan
Court McGee’s game plan against Carlos Condit was one of the most confusing things I’ve seen in the UFC.
McGee has attempted 115 takedowns - ranking 21st in UFC history.
Carlos Condit been taken down 56 times - the most in UFC history. With a 34.8% takedown defense rate.
McGee didn’t record a single takedown attempt in his 3-round loss to Carlos Condit in his last fight.
This week’s opponent, Claudio Silva, has only been taken down once in the UFC and has 3 submissions wins in his last four fights. Silva also has only a 47% distance strike defense rate.
If the Condit fight was any indication, we can now expect McGee to attempt 15 takedowns and refuse to engage on the feet.
Antonina Shevchenko is Kevin Holland
Following her UFC 262 loss, Antonina Shevchenko is 0-3 when taken down more than once in her UFC career.
In those fights:
9 minutes of control time allowed (vs. Modafferi)
10 minutes 36 seconds of control time allowed, 47 significant ground strikes absorbed (vs. Chookagian)
20 significant ground strikes absorbed, 2nd-round submission loss (vs. Lee)
